Peace on Earth, good will toward men.
I have two beautiful sons who taught me the real meaning of unconditional love, and who have made me love Christmas again. For so many years I ran from the ghosts of Christmas.....the specters of friends and family no longer present who I deeply missed, the trail of wreckage caused by a life lived to excess, loss I couldn't cope with. The joy was gone for me and this time of year just reminded me how empty I was.
Slowly the wounds healed and as I built a family of my own I relearned the most important thing; that there is nothing more important in this world than to love and to be loved. You are never too far gone or too far away from redemption. You have to make yourself vulnerable to reap life's greatest reward, and it's worth it. Every bit of it. For no matter how successful you are, no matter how great your achievements, it's all empty and meaningless without people. People are the only thing in this world with any real importance. The rest is just dust.
I really try to apply that to how I deal with people outside of my immediate circle. All people were children once, and when you look at it that way, it's hard to dislike anyone. Every human being is deserving of your good will. Some won't be interested in it, but that's ok. They've just forgotten what's really important in life. They've forgotten that they were once children. Hopefully they'll remember someday.
So I am spending my Christmas with the people who are the most important to me: the lovely Mrs. Doctor Vapenstein, who is the smartest, strongest, most beautiful woman in the world; and little Igor and his big brother, The Creature. I love you boys so much. You have given me more happiness in my life than anything I could have imagined. I love you all beyond words, Merry Christmas.
And to you, the readers of Vapenstein, I thank all of you who have joined me as I began this particular journey. It's only been 8 weeks, but I feel that I have laid down a solid foundation. I will continue to devote myself to giving you the best vaping content that I can. Vapenstein truly is a labor of love, and I hope that comes through in the words on the page. Vapenstein is my gift to you, and I hope you find value in it.
I wish each and every one of you the merriest of Christmases. I hope you find yourself surrounded with people you love and who love you. I hope that all of your Christmas dreams come true, and I hope the new year brings you prosperity and happiness. Merry Christmas!
These sentiments are just as true this year as they were last year and the year before. I hope that you're with the people you love and who love you, and I hope you have at least some of what you wanted for yourself in 2015 here at the end of another year. God bless you, every one. Merry Christmas!
Nicotiana rustica is a potent variety of tobacco that has up to 10x the nicotine content of the tobacco we consumed. Used by native new worlders for a variety of ceremonial purposes, rustica is also so strong that it is an ingredient in some pesticides. This is the tobacco that got the Spaniards hooked, and they took it back to Europe with them and started 400 years of lung cancer and emphysema. Thanks Spain, you killed two of the most important people in my life and took years off my own. j/k
Well, how do you say no to that? I thought this was such an interesting sounding juice when I first saw it that it was what led me to place my first order with Intellicig-USA. So far RIZe juice has provided two solid entries in the Analog Replacement Sweepstakes. After reviewing them I never saw the bottles again. Mrs. Doctor Vapenstein loves cigarette-like vapes and is constantly engaging in monologues about her dissatisfaction that juice makers all seem to think tobacco tastes like sweet nuts and her view that they must be sissies if they don't know what a real cigarette tastes like.
So an interesting tobacco vape in The Lab today. I don't know of any commercially available tobacco products that utilize rustica, so I have zero expectations going into this session. Let us commence with the evaluation and see what our analysis provides.
I will be vaping this 24mg PG blend on my Bombshell at 3.7v.

Oh boy. RY4. I have vaped so many RY4s. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the combination of caramel and tobacco. Quite a bit actually. It's just that when you've vaped a dozen different RY4s and you have two strong favorites and ten that didn't make a lasting impression, you kind of lose interest.
That's not fair to the test subject however, so it's time to put prejudices aside and start thinking analytically.
Today's specimen is Hot Vapes RY4. The last Hot Vapes juice I reviewed, Blueberry Fest, actually made a very good impression with it's abundant, natural blueberry essence. So today I enter The Lab with hopes that they can duplicate that success and show me an RY4 with a deep, rich, natural caramel note and a satisfying tobacco base.
So it's off to The Lab, which is currently in a state of high Christmas cheer, with abundant lights and poinsettia garlands draped over everything to the point where I fear we are in seriously violation of OSHA standards. I will be vaping this 50PG/50VG 12mg blend on my Bombshell at 3.7v.
In my opinion Vapor Station is one of the best juices on the market. They've recently added all VG to their lineup, and my only real beef with them is that they go straight from 16mg to 24mg. I wish they offered 18mg or 20mg, but that's about the only criticism I have.
Their tobacco flavors have a mild body to them. They don't have a real forceful tobacco flavor, however the overall flavor they do possess is exquisitely enjoyable. No off-putting flavors, no excess of ash tray, they're just pleasant. Their tobacco base is made using Virginia tobacco essential oil and Turkish tobacco absolute. VS juices are the most delicate juice made using tobacco absolute I ever vaped. There is no unwanted dirty element. At 24mg they have a really nice punch, and I can't really pick a favorite. Ok, I can. It's VS Tampa. Every VS tobacco I have is really, really good, and they come ready to vape right out of the mail.
Today's flavor is Vapor Station Texas, their rendition of the old standby, Turkish tobacco. I happen to really enjoy a good Turkish tobacco vape, so I was really looking forward to this juice. I've been vaping it for a few weeks now, and it's time to take it to The Lab.
I will be vaping this 16mg PG blend on my Bombshell at 3.7v.
Vapors Etc Captain Jack is a juice that is easy to like. Normally I avoid the whole extra/double flavor sort of thing, but Captain Jack in a PG base with extra flavor is a mellow, full flavored tobacco vape that is exceptionally smooth. I said I would prefer it in regular flavor, but I've since changed my mind for this juice. It doesn't have much in the way of bite, so I reach for it fairly infrequently, but every time I do pull it out of The Juice Cellar I ask myself why I don't vape this stuff more.
When Ross added Cherry Jack to his lineup almost immediately after I received my bottle of Captain Jack, I ordered a bottle right away. I had been looking for that elusive combination of cherry and tobacco done right, and so far the ones that had entered The Lab hadn't quite met with my approval.
Today we enter The Lab with Cherry Jack from Vapors Etc, an interpretation of a mild pipe tobacco with cherry. I ordered the VG version this time around to see if the throat hit would be compromised by the VG base. I will be vaping this 18mg VG juice on my Bombshell at 3.7v.
Welcome to the inaugural Vapenstein Awards. The Vapenstein Awards is an annual presentation where Vapenstein recognizes and celebrates the best of vaping. Vapenstein is limited in its scope, therefore the number of categories is limited in this first year but will undoubtedly grow in future Vapenstein Awards presentations. Also, these are the Vapenstein Awards. I do not claim to represent the entire vaping community, just Vapenstein.
People from all geographic and social strata have chosen life and health by forsaking tobacco and have embraced the electronic cigarette. We are a global community who practice and advocate vaping as the safer alternative it represents. This is our community. You are here at ground zero, and as this community grows you will have been one of the cornerstones that future growth is built upon. It's a community that Vapenstein is very proud to be some small part of.
Whatever led you here, we all share a common love of vaping. In this, the very first Vapenstein Awards, I will be giving recognition to those products and people in the vaping scene who represent the very best we have to offer. It is my very profound honor to be able to do so, and to share this with you, the Vapenstein reader. You are the reason I spend all the long hours in The Lab, the reason there is such an extensive collection in The Juice Cellar, and you are what keeps me coming back to the keyboard every morning to add to the resource I have created for you.
Incidentally it was brought to my attention after these awards had already been completed that there had been a 2009 Vapy Awards. Being a new vaper myself in 2010 I had no prior knowledge of them until it was pointed out to me. I am not trying to ride anybody's coat tails. These are the Vapenstein Awards, and the honor is nicknamed the "Vapey". There is no affiliation with the former, defunct event.
So without further adieu let us commence with these, the 2010 Vapenstein Awards. I apologize for the lack of a genuine trophy, but Vapenstein is still in its infancy and this crummy medal was the best we could do this year.
I love hearty tobacco vapes. I am constantly chasing the elusive specter of throat hit and expansive flavor, and I gravitate toward cigar and pipe vapes to find it. The smell of a tobacconist shop is like mother's milk for me.
I had never tried Totally Wicked juice before, and I took advantage of their recent Yo Yo Sale to place an order. They offer four lines of juice, all curiously offered at the same price point of $29.99 for 30ml; Red Label, made for them in China but not Dekang as far as I know, Patriot Range, which is produced for them in the US, and Black Label and Decadent Vapours lines which are produced in the UK by Decadent Vapours. My initial impressions of the Red Label product were quite good, and I have placed a second, larger order consisting of Black Label tobacco juices.
Today I will be dripping some Red Label French Pipe on a 510 atty and seeing what develops. I will be vaping this 18mg PG blend on my Bombshell at 3.7v.
I smoked Marlboro Reds almost exclusively from 1978 to 1998. I detoured to Camel unfiltereds for a couple of years, and I've smoked some Winstons in my day. I spent my last decade as a smoker smoking Pall Mall Lights, but mostly it was good old fashioned Marlboro Box.
Mrs. Doctor Vapenstein loves the analog vapes. She wants something that performs and tastes like a cigarette. Me, I'm more about the performance, and I have grown to love a fresher, unburned tobacco taste. I am always accepting applications to the Analog Replacement Sweepstakes, and today's entrant is Intellicig-USA's RIZe Reds Blend. Previously I reviewed RIZe Kamel from them, and it proved itself a worthy entry to the sweepstakes with good impact and above average analog taste.
So it's time to enter The Lab where we will snip the ball off this 10ml needle tip bottle of Reds Blend and see if it says Marlboro or "Meh"boro. I will be vaping this 24mg PG coffin nail on my Bombshell at 3.7v.
Some people drink wine and they're like "observe the notes of tannin and coffee. A dry currant permeates the finish, creating a rich, raisin-y note.". Others simply think wine tastes like wine. Guess which type I am.
It's no secret that I am a tobacco vaper. I have had a near-lifelong love affair with tobacco. I enjoy it on a very high level, and I'm also a complete addict. I tend to overdo stuff. So I got something from smoking that I now get from vaping that satisfies me on two levels; the connoisseur and the obsessive.
My interest in non-tobacco vapes is pretty low. Some sound good, but I get them, vape a little, and then they go in The Juice Cellar never to be seen again. I even prefer my dessert vapes to have a tobacco base. However, I realize that not all Vapenstein readers are going to share my tobacco-centric world view, so I order a fair amount of non-tobacco vapes to review. I am not the authority on these juices that I am on tobacco juices, and while my palate is not as finely tuned to detect who the players behind the scenes are in these juices, it's still a good palate and I can offer objective analyses of what I observe during evaluation. My enthusiasm for a non-tobacco will never reach the heights that a good tobacco juice takes it to, but I will do the best I can to offer my insight into the juices that come into my hands. I have said before if a non-tobacco ever receives a Vapenstein It's Alive! Award you can count on it being monumental juice, and I stand behind that statement.
Today in The Lab I have a 12mg sample of Blueberry Fest from Hot Vapes. Let's fire up this 50/50 blend and see what comes to light.
