I am a big fan of BASIC liquid from Cignot. Their liquid is thick and clean tasting and more than a little reminiscent of ECOpure, which you all know I love. The trend with BASIC juice has been below average tobacco juices but way above average non-tobaccos.
When I first stumbled across the BASIC line this is the flavor that made me want to order. BASIC Black Ice. Anise and menthol. Great name, and a combination of flavors I've never seen elsewhere that sounds fantastic.
Of course, anise is the flavor that most Americans will mistakenly recognize as black licorice. I don't know why so many commercial food products labeled as being licorice are actually anise, but there it is. The flavors are similar, but genuine licorice is deep, dark and somewhat murky, whereas anise is brighter and more closely resembles the licorice-like flavor you get in Good n Plenty candy.
An interesting non-tobacco for evaluation today. I will be vaping this thick 25mg all-VG juice at 3.7v on my Copper with a Cisco 1.5 ohm atty.
The nose of this juice is Good n Plenty. It's all there but the hard candy shell.
The flavor on inhale is similarly a full, mellow mouth of anise. By the time you are about to get the throat hit, you notice the cooling effect of the menthol. It is not a powerful menthol and it doesn't overwhelm the anise. Throat hit is good but not great. You won't be feeling cheated, but it doesn't have the sharp impact you're looking for if you're a throat hit fiend. However, this juice doesn't demand a severe throat hit, and the amount present in this blend is more than acceptable.
The flavor on exhale is where the menthol asserts itself, but the balance is surprisingly sophisticated. Menthol is like the nuke at the firecracker stand. It is so easy for any other element in a juice to be overwhelmed by menthol. Here, the anise and menthol are balanced perfectly. The interplay between the two is wonderful, and there is a balance here that sends this juice to another level. Vapor production here is less than I was expecting from an all-VG, and is somewhat more than a really good PG blend but somewhat less than most all-VG juices. That is just fine in terms of performance and nothing feels wrong, but I was expecting thicker more voluminous vapor from a BASIC juice.
Harmony. That is the word that kept popping into my head when I was in The Lab with this juice. There is a harmony and balance to this juice that is really extraordinary. Two strong flavors, neither too severe, neither overpowering the other. An incredible and excellent blend and a juice that is unique in flavor. The anise is sweet and true, and the menthol has been toned down into a cool, gentle breeze that blows through the whole vape, from inhale to exhale. The two flavors intertwine in perfect harmony and deliver a vape that is way, way above average. I have to give this a Vapenstein It's Alive! Award, a distinction only one other non-tobacco has ever received. A truly unique and excellent vape.
