I do not spend as much time on the web forums as I used to. I try to stop in every couple of days and make sure I'm not missing anything important, but I'm spread pretty thin trying to balance my web interests, day job and family.
So there are a bunch of newer vendors who are getting lip service on the forums, and I knew I needed to get cracking before I missed the boat altogether. Southern Ambrosia was kind enough to send me a couple of review samples, and today I am evaluating the first, Southern Ambrosia Voodoo Lady.
Southern Ambrosia has no web site at this time. Until they do, you can keep tabs on them via their Facebook page here. I'll update this when that changes.
I saw my friend lasttango on ECF repost a description of this one in one of the Southern Ambrosia threads there: This is a dark and decadent tobacco brew with creamy mysterious undertones. Granny picked up this potion from a VooDoo priestess in New Orleans back in '42. She will wrap you in her spell, and leave you wanting more. Warning, once you've been touched by the Voodoo Lady, she never lets you go.
Okay, I'm in. I love tobacco and creative descriptions. Straight to The Lab with this 18mg 70PG/30VG blend. I will be vaping this juice at 3.7v on my Bombshell with a 1.5 ohm Cisco atty.
The nose of this juice is sweet, fragrant, pleasant and familiar, and the specifics will be described in more detail in the following section because it also relates very closely to my initial flavor impressions. It smells exactly like my first impression of flavor. It has a great scent and it's a little shocking because I was not expecting something so aromatic, much less a fragrance we don't associate with vaping.
The flavor on inhale instantly grabbed me as something very, very familiar. Honestly, the first couple blasts of this juice tasted to me exactly like wisteria incense smells. Good quality, charcoal based incense, not that sawdust-y cheap crap that look like punks you bought at a firecracker stand. Wisteria for sure. This is such a fantastic scent, and that scent translates into a flavor that is floral, complex, and different than anything you ever vaped. Getting past that initial impression, there is something deeper here as well. A note that is reminiscent of coffee. It's not prominent, and it makes the experience three dimensional because it is a grounding, polar opposite to the floral element. There's something else at work too, but I can't put my finger on it. Throat hit of this juice is very good.
The flavor on exhale maintains that complex blend of yin and yang established earlier, and adds a tobacco note. The tobacco here is not terribly convincing and recalls flavoring rather than a natural extract, but balanced with everything else going on here, it works very well. Vapor production is average for a PG blend.
This is a very unique vape with a lot going on in it. You guys probably get tired of my apocalyptic rants regarding my dissatisfaction with all the lackluster juice that's out there. Well, this isn't one of those. I firmly believe that, as a vendor, you need to offers vapers something special and unique. Whether that means making your own tobacco extracts, sourcing flavorings from obscure sources, engineering juice that couldn't be replicated at home, or just utilizing existing sources to create something unique and wonderful, vapers deserve better than to pay for juice they could easily make at home for less money.
This is one of those. I get the feeling this juice has been created using readily available components that any vaper could buy. However, this juice displays a skillful hand at work blending its elements into something that I couldn't reproduce at home. Someone cared what they were making here, and you reap the rewards of that love every time you take a blast of this juice. This juice is extraordinarily good. The flavors are deep and complex. Fragrant doesn't even begin to describe this juice. This is not an all day vape and this certainly won't be for everyone. This is like a rich Indian curry. Something to enjoy and relish when you spend time with it.
I simply have to give this juice a Vapenstein It's Alive! Award. Creative, original, delicious and satisfying.
