I am always, always excited to try tobacco vapes where the vendor is going the extra mile and making their own natural extract. There are precious few of them. Don't get me wrong. I am fond of some of the better-vaping-through chemistry tobacco juices. I even like a couple of artificial flavoring tobacco vapes. I am drawn to the Real Thing though, like a moth to a light bulb.
Today's test subject is Prime Vaping's Natural Tobacco. Prime Vaping pretty much came out of nowhere and wowed me with a couple of their juices recently. Their juice is clear, burns great and performs. My favorite kind of triple threat.
Here's a secret: I ordered 60ml of one of their juices I haven't even reviewed yet. That has never, ever happened before. So I'm pretty happy with my new friend Jon's juice, and I will be ordering more of them now that he has me hooked. New vendors come and go, and most of them are as disappointing as the ones that came before. Prime Vaping is a keeper, and if you haven't tried any of their juice yet I am giving them the official Vapenstein Seal of Approval. Good stuff.
Today I will be vaping this 18mg 70PG/30VG blend on my Copper at 3.7v with a 1.5 ohm Cisco atty.
The nose of this juice is a very slightly smoky, musty natural tobacco scent. It has that wet burlap sack smell of unburnt, dried tobacco. This is appealing if you like tobacco.
The flavor on inhale has a suggestion of natural sweetness. There is a dry quality to this vape, but not in the pseudo-tobacco vape way that we're used to as vapers. The biggest impression I get on inhale is of a dry, pleasant, mild tobacco extract. Throat hit is good, above average, as is the case with all the PV juice I've vaped. It is satisfying and what you would hope for from your tobacco vape.
The flavor on exhale is of a very mild mannered tobacco extract. There is almost a whisper of ash tray, and I wonder if maybe PV didn't try to bolster their extract by infusing a tiny amount of tobacco absolute. I wouldn't put money on it, but I have thought that on and off while I've vaped my way through this bottle. This is a tobacco vape that has that grassy, vegetal body to it. I don't mind that, but it almost leaves me wanting more tobacco from it. It is lighter than Backwoods or Vaperite natural tobaccos. Vapor production is average for a PG blend.
This juice is a solid effort, and my bottle is almost gone. It's good, it doesn't tax your senses, and you can vape it all day long. It wins in a lot of categories.
Judged as a natural tobacco extract vape, it's not my favorite. It suffers from the same problem almost every single natural tobacco extract vape suffers from, so it's not a problem with this juice. Even the highly regarded vapes from Backwoods Brew and Vaperite have the same issue. It's like no one making a tobacco extract is figuring out how to bottle the convincing, natural essence of the leaf. All of these juices are way too mild and have only a suggestion of what we miss about tobacco. Most vapers probably won't notice or care, but some of us are lovers of premium tobacco.
Pipe tobacco and cigars wield a power over some of us that makes us fall in love. I have felt this way about tobacco almost my entire life. I have a website dedicated to that love. Tobacco at its best is big. It's robust, complex, subtle, deep, forceful, delicate, sublime, hell it's all of these things. Much like a good spirit. It's the same reason people fall in love with single malts.
There is something about good tobacco that touches some of us on a very deep level. It evokes memories of people and times long passed. It makes us happy and sad. I sit with my wife every evening and smoke my pipe for an hour before bed, and I look forward to that during the day. The proper way to smoke a pipe is where the bowl is almost always on the verge of extinguishing itself. It forces you to regulate your breathing. You slow down, fall into a rhythm with the pipe, enjoying the tobacco, thinking about everything. Your relaxed state helps you see things from afar and answers are revealed during this state. Ideas blossom. Your heart rate slows down. You see things more clearly. It's practically zen.
So when I express disappointment in a tobacco extract vape, it isn't necessarily a knock against the vendor or even the juice. The problem is, none of these vapes capture the magic of tobacco, and that is something that every single vendor who makes a natural tobacco vape should be bending their mind toward. Sometimes I feel that I am the sole evangelist for this in the vaping world, but in my heart I know I can't be alone in these sentiments.
Lovesick monologues about tobacco aside, Prime Vaping Natural Tobacco is a solid effort. This is one of the better tobacco vapes in the business. I would like more; a higher concentration of extract, and a deeper, darker essence, but I can't really knock this juice. Prime Vaping didn't reinvent the wheel with this one, but they did make a solid vape that uses a tobacco extract that they cared enough to craft themselves, and that alone deserves our thanks. It's good juice and if you like tobacco vapes you'd be missing out if you didn't try it.
Wait til you hear what I thought about their artificially flavored tobacco juice. You may be surprised. I was. Until that review, try some PV Natural Tobacco. Good stuff, and recommended.
