American cigarettes are a lot like American beer. Watered down, thin and lacking in personality compared to what our European cousins enjoy. For the 30+ years that I smoked the nails, I loved to infrequently pick up a pack of something good to smoke from a tobacconist. Gauloises, Players Navy Cut and Sobranie Black Russians were all on the menu.
Sobranie Black Russians aren't the stoutest cigarette at only 14mg. What they lacked in nicotine kick they made up for in quality tobacco. Many people have tried these just because they come in a cool black wrapper with a gold wrapped filter, but the cigarettes are good as well as fun to look at.
They offer several obscure to Americans European cigarette brand vapes, so of course I had to order this one when I stumbled across Croatia-based E Liquid Shop. My order took several months to arrive, probably due to an incorrectly filled out customs form. I finally got these, and this is the second I am reviewing.
I will be vaping this 100%PG 24mg juice at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a 1.7 ohm SLB atty.
The nose of this juice has the same sweet and dark, caramel-y aroma that their Guloise has. I don't think I could pick between the two if you blindfolded me. I don't detect any tobacco.
The flavor on inhale is similarly dark and sweet. No smoke or tobacco here. Throat hit is surprisingly light for a 24mg 100%PG juice. Not as satisfying as most 18mg 70/30 tobacco vapes.
The flavor on exhale is musty and sweet caramel, but presented in lighter proportions than their Guloise juice. Other than that, it's the same flavor as far as I can tell. Think Guloise Light. Nothing that suggests tobacco, which is something of a deal breaker in a cigarette vape. Vapor production is great for a 100% PG juice, only slightly less than a blend.
So this one is a disappointment. You have to wonder about a vendor that has such a large catalog of juices, and in this case this one appears to be a recycled, slightly altered version of the juice I reviewed previously. Lazy and it bodes ill for the rest of their juice that I have on hand.
The big problem I have with this juice is that it is marketed to someone who want a Sobranie cigarette, but there is nothing cigarette-like about it. I realize that almost no vendors have managed to capture cigarette in a vape, but you just can't slap a cigarette name on a caramel juice with nicotine in it and expect the Doctor to be impressed. This isn't bad, but it isn't what I wanted or expected.
It's indicative of a larger problem in the vaping world. No one making our juice seems to remember or care what tobacco is like. Not everyone is happy vaping candy bars or fruit flavors with menthol. I sometimes wonder what some vapers used to smoke, because the proliferation of all these kiddie juices in the vaping community just makes me shake my head. The problem is compounded by the fact that some very high profile people in the vaping community who have influence over others seem completely happy to vape Honey Nut Cheerios and tell everyone how great it is. If this is all about the nicotine, then we're just advocating that people use what is arguably the most addictive substance on the planet, and one that has a negative impact on a person's health. My children, left in a room with a PV unsupervised, would not vape Alcazar after they took a blast. They probably would vape Snickerdoodle or Almond Horn though.
So who are we catering to with all these kiddie vapes? I am a grown man and my tastes are those of someone who loves tobacco but has forsaken cigarettes for vaping in an effort to improve my health and be around longer for my kids. I respect the right of any adult to vape whatever they want to, but at the same time all of these dessert vapes represent a troubling gray area to my mind. If you aren't trying to replace tobacco, wouldn't it just be better to give it up altogether? This is my opinion, and one that's sure to alienate some vapers. That's not my intention, merely to make you think about the issue. I myself can be hypocritical of this stance, because there are a few non-tobaccos I've vaped that I have found to be excellent, and as a juice maker I am sure to make some of my own because the market demands it. But truly, if I wanted Peanut Butter Cup I can eat a Reese's. I don't need to vape one.
