Temperance. Moderation in action, thought or feeling; restraint. Admirable qualities in practice, but perhaps not the best selling points for a vape as it implies something very polite and restrained. In other words, boring.
I smoke a lot of Latakia blends. Whether you call one an English blend, a Balkan blend or an American crossover, they all include smoky Latakia from the Syria or Cyprus. Latakia is an Oriental tobacco that has been fire cured, but unlike flue curing or stoving where only the heat is a factor in the curing, smoke is a big part of the equation with Latakia. Hence the smoky campfire smell of these tobaccos. It's delightful and it imparts smoke, sourness and dry leather in varying degrees depending on which Latakia is used in which proportion.
I'm not really a big fan of the more civil examples of this genre. I like the rough edges. I want big flavors, and I hate feeling like I want more. Maybe I don't admire temperance as much as some.
Of course, more isn't always better. The right balance of flavor is what tips the balance between It's Alive! juice and "meh". Too much flavoring is as destructive as not enough. I mix my own DIY version of a popular commercial juice, and there is a reason why that commercial juice deserves its popularity. Consistency and balance require some skill to achieve. As much as I complain about all the commercial DIY out there, when done properly it's sometimes still good juice, and probably better than you or I would make using the same ingredients if the blender is good. Ultimately the most important aspect of vaping is finding that substitute for smoking that keeps you off the nails.
Today I have another LiquidXpress Indulgence juice here in The Lab, Temperance. Let's get to work and put this 18mg 85PG/15VG juice through its paces. I will be vaping Temperance at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a 1.7 ohm SLB atty.
The nose of this juice suggests citrus and menthol, common themes in Indulgence juices.
The flavor on inhale is citrus and menthol, and the menthol here is presented in a much stronger dose than previous Indulgence juices I've reviewed. Ironic. I can't really pin down the citrus to a specific fruit. To me the impression is strongly citrus without making me think of one specific citrus fruit. This juice has great throat hit, the best of the series. I would reach for this when I had a sinus infection and all my juices tasted bland. Good performance.
The flavor on exhale has all of what came before plus a soft sweetness that lingers on the tongue. I stress that this is a pretty mentholated juice, so if menthol isn't your thing you can skip this one. Vapor production is about average for a PG blend.
The total package here is a fairly robust citrus menthol vape. This is a satisfying, although poorly named juice. The name of this juice might make you shy away from this thinking that it's an insipid vape that is easy on the palate. If you like the idea of mentholated fruit vapes, this is about the most satisfying I've vaped. The citrus and menthol work together to create a substantial vape that will put a smile on the face of you menthol lovers out there. I can't fault this, even if it's not my sort of vape. Good juice, and recommended.
