Sweet Caroline from iVape has been around for at least a year, which is pretty much forever in vaping. Mention Rath juice in a forum and you'll draw blank stares.
This is one of the classics of tobacco vapes, and I've been remiss in letting it go til now. There's a lot of juice out there, and in my mission to vape all of it this one just kind of got lost in the shuffle.
Sweet Caroline is described as honey cured tobacco. I've seen reviews where people compared it to a hybrid of tobacco and sweet tea, and this is a vape that has a large fan base.
What do I hope for when going into The Lab with Sweet Caroline? The flue cured category is full of vapes that are sadly off target. So far the only juice that replicates any element of a real flue cured Virginia tobacco is the base that Don at Backwoods uses for his Virginia and Honey Flue vapes, but it's very light in body. His Adirondack also hits that note. A true flue cured Virginia is very sweet. Virginia has the highest amount of natural sugars of any leaf. It ages fantastically because of those sugars, and a large amount of fermentation occurs in a sealed tin of tobacco or mason jar. Virginias continue to improve in an oxygen free environment for up to four decades or so, and aged tins of pipe tobacco bring astronomical sums. To date, no vendor has really caught that magic in a vape.
So let's see if iVape was successful with Sweet Caroline. Fire up the tesla coils and Jacob's Ladders, it's time to open The Lab for an evaluation of this juice. I will be vaping this 18mg juice of unknown PG/VG ratio (spider sense tells me it's in the 70PG/30VG neighborhood, maybe a little more VG because it absorbed into the carto pretty slowly) at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a fresh Bloog cartomizer and 510 adapter. Bloog cartos perform very similarly to LR 510 attys, so the vape is about the same as a Cisco or SLB. There's a reason for this unusual setup today which I will detail in the wrap-up.
The nose of this juice is pure ash tray. I am not kidding. Read on.
The flavor on inhale is very, very, very ashy. Kids, today we're going to talk about tobacco absolute. Tobacco absolute is an extremely concentrated form of tobacco extract. It can be used to bolster a tobacco vape by adding a cigarette-like, ashy element. It needs to be used with a very delicate hand. Velvet Vapors does this, and you can just detect it. All Vapor Station tobaccos contain tobacco absolute, and I cannot detect it at all there. I always wondered what would happen if you used tobacco absolute with a less judicious hand, and Sweet Caroline answers that question. It's the wrong answer. It may push one tobacco performance element button in your brain, but it's a note that presented solo without the rest of the tobacco equation present isn't very desirable. It is strong and ashy. On the upside, I don't get mystery nut here. I really don't get any sweet notes either though. This is Ash Tray E Liquid, period. Throat hit is about average for a tobacco vape.
The flavor on exhale is just more of the same. It's ashy. Really ashy. There is a little sweetness here, but it's buried in a vape that is a little off putting. Vapor production is above average for a PG blend, so this juice may very well be two thirds PG to one third VG, but no more than 50/50 I would guess.
I've had four separate sessions with this tobacco vape over the last month. My first impressions were never overcome. This is too much tobacco absolute, plain and simple. Taste being subjective, I am sure that there are many vapers out there who will find this juice to be the closest thing to smoking a cigarette that exists in the vaping world. It doesn't work for me, and I used a carto because I didn't want to contaminate my atty with it. On the one hand I applaud iVape for taking a unique approach. There are so many cookie cutter juices out there that even though I don't like this juice I appreciate that some thought went into its creation. There is no juice like this in all of vaping, and every tobacco vaper should try a bottle. It may be your cup of tea, it wasn't mine. Whatever it is, it's definitely a Sweepstakes entrant, so if you're on a pilgrimage to find a cigarette replacement, do give this one a try.
