Halo Smooth 8 is a flavor that has been out forever. All the new additions to the Halo catalog reminded me that this is one I needed to get into The Lab.
We don't use much ginger in the West. Ginger ale, ginger snaps, that's about it. Getting into Indian and Southeast Asian cuisine is an education in spice and flavoring that is radically different than the European culinary tradition. Ginger is almost as essential as garlic in these kitchens.
So what does ginger taste like? Well, ginger ale I guess. To us anyway. Previously I've had a couple of ginger vapes, and the last one from Bombay Vaping, Stag Leaf Tobacco, was surprisingly good.
Not much of a setup for this one today, so let's just head to The Lab, where I will be vaping this 18mg juice at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a 1.7 ohm SLB atty. Halo doesn't reveal the contents of their juice, but I am going with 80PG/20VG for the ratio. Halo juices are thin, burn clean and have way better than average throat hit.
The nose of this juice is lightly astringent and slightly smoky.
The flavor on inhale is more delicate than most of the Halo catalog. I don't get that chemical-y "solvent" quality here. I don't mean that in a bad way. Torque is practically nail polish remover, and it may very well be the single most satisfying juice in all of vaping for someone that needs analog-like impact. There is a more delicate quality to this one. Kind of like Freedom that tastes like ginger, but even lighter. The astringent tang of the ginger is very subdued on the way in, but this juice still has a throat hit that puts most other juice to shame. I like this juice better the more I vape it. Initially I thought it was a little light, but it's light in a good way and it's not insubstantial by any means.
The flavor on exhale is a very nice presentation of ginger. Not cloying, overly sweetened, or too taxing on the palate. Not as intense as the previously mentioned ginger vape from another vendor, but perhaps more balanced. In any event, if you're going to be vaping ginger for any length of time it needs to be mellowed somewhat. Halo did a nice job doing that here without gutting this juice. Vapor production of this juice is downright foggy, so I am wondering if this recipe strays from their normally PG-heavy formula. This is a lot of vapor for a Halo juice.
Once again Halo shows that they know what they're doing. The company is relatively young, and they pretty much started at the top. They haven't lost any ground here or with any of their new juices. Every juice maker should become intimately familiar with Halo's catalog, because this is a company that understands that performance and flavor go hand in hand toward creating juice that makes vaping better than smoking. Halo juice won't be for everyone because of the intense aspect of some of them, but for the rest of us they're a revelation in the sort of satisfaction we miss from smoking. Recommended? Are you kidding? Yes. Pick one from their catalog. It's impossible to go wrong.
