When Vermillion River first came on the scene they had a fairly nicely designed website (with a horrid color scheme) and no one had ever heard anything about them. I think I may have said some disparaging words on ECF regarding slick web design and product no one had heard of, and dismissed them out of hand.
Fast forward almost a year, and my friend basilray surprised me by giving Vermillion River the number one spot in his top ten juices on an episode of his weekly VapeTV show. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Jesse's opinion, so I ordered a bottle to see for myself.
Vermillion River's tobacco base carries the moniker Kentucky Premium, and they offer it straight or in cherry, maple, vanilla and apple variants. I ordered the maple. Vermillion River says their base has smooth nut and caramel undertones and makes no mention of natural tobacco, so what I am hoping for here is a good artificial tobacco vape with sweet flavor notes.
I will be vaping this 20mg juice at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a brand new 1.5 ohm 306 atty. The PG/VG ratio is listed as being 60PG/40VG to 70PG/30VG on all VR juices, but they don't specify per juice.
The nose of this juice is sweet and I get all three of the advertised flavors, maple, nut and caramel. I never noticed that before, but that's why I try to throw a brand new atty on as often as I can for reviews.
The flavor on inhale is not as sweet as the aroma would indicate, although it is still sweet. I do get maple, and the quality of flavor is good. It's not heavy or cloying, but presented in a proportion that won't obliterate any other flavors. There is also a nutty softness. Throat hit is about average for a tobacco vape. I am hard to please when it comes to TH.
The flavor on exhale is where the base suggests tobacco. I say suggests, because there is nothing here that remotely resembles tobacco. However, you bought this juice, it's supposed to be a tobacco vape, so you've programmed yourself to expect tobacco. That helps pull off the illusion, and the base is such that it kind of lets you project your expectations onto it. The sweet flavors are much less present on exhale, and the overall impression is that of an excellent tobacco vape with sweet undertones. Vapor production is average for a PG blend.
Mystery nut with throat hit. How many times have I used that phrase? Well, this juice is about as good as you're going to get in that genre.
This juice almost disappeared before I got to review it. I was so happy with it out of the mail that I vaped it all the first weekend I had it. However, like Nite Lite Bounty Hunter and Prime Vaping Love From Above, I hit a wall with this juice pretty fast.
There are a lot of good juices out there, and it's easy to fall into an initial infatuation with them. Very few juices make the transition from infatuation to genuine fondness though, and this is one of them. I don't know what it is about Halo and Vapor Station juice that makes me like them as much a year later as I did when I first vaped them, but they're the exception. Vermillion River Kentucky Maplewood made a great first impression, but that impression has paled somewhat over the last couple of weeks. I'll point out the obvious and state that taste is subjective, and that I just don't have much of a sweet tooth. I prefer my coffee black, my food spicy, and my tobacco bold and earthy.
Don't let my mixed praise of this juice put you off. This is an excellent example of a sweet tobacco vape. Almost Vapor Station caliber, but for me not quite up to that standard. The flavor profile of this juice is very similar to the VS tobaccos, but not so strong on the nut as they are. Also less tobacco essence than they have. Even so, this juice is very, very close to It's Alive! territory, so if sweet tobacco vapes tickle your fancy, this juice is one you must put on your wish list. The quality of flavor is excellent and the performance characteristics of this juice are too. No one appreciates a clean burning juice more than I do.
A very solid effort from Vermillion River and one that I can heartily recommend despite the fact that it didn't make my regular rotation.
