One of the first juices I ever really liked was RY4. A well liked vendor makes what was my favorite RY4 back then, but it is hard to get, and I've never had two bottles that tasted the same so I just gave up on it. You also need to be careful with RY4 variants, because I know one popular flavoring maker whose caramel flavoring has diacetyl in it. If you're using flavorings that weren't created to be used in eliquid, you don't know what you're getting til you send a sample off to a lab, unless the maker unequivocally tells you they are diacetyl free. Sound like a sore subject? Yeah, I was ready to launch a new juice and the lab results came back and showed that one of the flavors I was going to use was positive for diacetyl, so I'm back at square one. Not happy, but I am not going to tolerate any amount of diacetyl either. That's my diacetyl rant, back to the review.
Up today is juice from a vendor that is new to me, Highbrow Vapor. I have several from them and will be working them in over the next couple of months. I am going to start with their Highbrowbacco RY4, which should give us a baseline for what their tobaccos are all about.
I will be vaping this 18mg 80PG/20VG juice at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a brand new 1.5 ohm Joye 306. Let's get to it.
The nose of this juice is nutty and smoky.
The flavor on inhale is slightly nutty and buttery and transitions straight into a respectable throat hit.
The flavor on exhale is where I get DK-Tab mystery nut, butter and a sense of tobacco in the eliquid sense. This is a very Chinese tasting juice, but I don't mean that in a bad way. This tastes a lot like a Chinese tobacco in profile, but the quality of flavor is excellent and there is nothing here that grosses me out. I really don't get much sense of vanilla or caramel here, other than the buttery aspect on inhale. Perhaps the nutty element is stepping on those notes. Vapor production is solid for a juice that is 80% PG, on par with most 70/30 blends.
If I had nothing else in The Cellar I could vape this happily. It just isn't the flavor profile I'm looking for any more. The flavor is representative of mystery nut with throat hit, but it's executed well and the juice is clean burning and has better than average performance. I always hope to find new and interesting takes on these old favorites. You won't find that here, but you could do a lot worse also. If you're looking for a tobacco vape that is less about the creamy, buttery caramel tobacco that some vendors' RY4 offers, and more about the love it or hate it pseudo-tobacco profile that the Chinese created, this is an excellent example. This is not a negative review, it's just not what I'm looking for in an RY4.
