Today I will be evaluating the second in the group of juices I have from Highbrow Vapor. Exotic Blend is interesting in that it appears to be a separate tobacco vape that you can have any of their fruit flavors. The bottle they sent me is labelled apple, so an apple tobacco vape it is.
I'm kind of a tobacco snob. I won't smoke a pipe tobacco that I know has flavorings added, preferring tobacco alone to create the magic in the bowl. I do like flavored tobacco vapes though, and apple can be a particularly good tobacco vape. I think it also helps in that the vast majority of tobacco vapes aren't too convincing on their own, so an added flavor both enhances and helps cover a multitude of sins, as my mother is fond of saying regarding wallpaper.
I recently gave Halo's Midnight Apple an It's Alive!, so a benchmark has been set in the arena of apple tobacco vapes.
I will be vaping today's 18mg 80PG/20VG blend at 3.7v on my Silver Bullet with a 1.5 ohm Joye 306.
The nose of this juice is, not surprisingly, DK Tab with an apple top note.
The flavor on inhale is mystery nut with a faint whiff of apple. This juice has a very Chinese flavor profile. Throat hit is okay. I would consider it a bit below average for a tobacco vape.
The flavor on exhale is pseudo-tobacco. The impression of mystery nut gives way to something you might be able to convince yourself was tobacco, if you had no particular love of tobacco and you weren't being very honest with yourself. The apple is buried in this and doesn't play too much part. Vapor production is about average for a PG blend.
This is not a Toe Tag juice and I am not slamming Highbrow Vapor as a vendor, but I am going to use my platform to express the way I feel about this juice and all juices like it:
Not good enough. If you're going to make tobacco juice, make tobacco juice. Someone who loves tobacco does not want mystery nut. They certainly aren't fooled by it. It's no wonder that everyone is vaping strawberry menthol green tea frapple, or whatever that crap is, if this is what vaping vendors are going to serve up as tobacco. Now, that isn't the case, and there are a lot of quality tobacco vapes out there. They don't even have to be genuine tobacco. You can capture tobacco performance aspects in juice that tastes nothing like the real thing. Halo tastes nothing like tobacco, and I love every Halo tobacco vape. I just don't see this, or juices like it, being something that people are looking for. Too many vendors are using off the shelf flavorings that aren't any good in the first place and slapping labels on the resulting juice. We can do better than that.
Again, the folks at Highbrow are nice people and I do not intend to slander their product or cast aspersions on them in any way, shape or form. This juice is something we've all vaped before, it's why I wanted to make my own juice in the first place, and it's probably the reason most of you aren't tobacco vapers.
