At least in the beginning, every vaper seeks something that closely approximates the flavor and hit of what they smoked. I admit it, there are liquids I like just because of how they hit. That wave of nicotine relief that washes over me when I take a toot (hehe, oops sorry Nick I infringed on your trademark!) is one of the reasons I vape the same juice every day when I wake up, and also the same reason that another juice is the staple of my PV case.
I like analog impact, so I usually give analog replacement juices a shot. Mrs. Doctor Vapenstein vapes them almost exclusively, eschewing the more exotic tobacco flavors and dessert vapes.
Registering an entrant in the Analog Replacement Sweepstakes today is want2vape, a vendor who surprised me recently with their excellent Red Pirate. That one and another juice of theirs (that absolutely blew my mind and has a review pending) utilize their own house made tobacco extracts. Sold. That's all it took to win my heart. You can taste the love and skill in juice like that, and many Vapenstein It's Alive! Award winners follow that pattern.
Today in The Lab I have an appointment with want2vape Marl Lite, their version of a certain well known commercial analog. I will be vaping this 24mg PG blend on my Bombshell at 3.7v.
want2vape has a disclaimer on their Marl page that Marl is one of three Dekang flavors they offered and will not be restocking. This is the same product that Xtreme Vaping is selling the flavoring for.
This juice is not that Marl. Marl Lite is want2vape's own clean room version of the classic Chinese tobacco vape juice flavor. This juice is currently in the fine tuning stages and this evaluation does not represent the final product.
The nose of this juice is softly reminiscent of an analog, but with that ever present peanut note that so many analog vapes have. I don't recall my cigarettes tasting or smelling like peanut. Why do so many tobacco juices have that peanut smell? For the target that want2vape was using as a model, this is right on target, and I also have to admit that my two favorite analog juices have a nut element also.
The flavor on inhale is actually pretty good. Clean, analog-like tobacco hit. This juice isn't a throat hit king, but it has good throat hit and the sensation I get at the back of my mouth and top of my throat is cigarette-like. I have to be honest, the inhale of this juice is more analog-like than some of the existing Analog Replacement Sweepstakes entries. It has solid impact.
The flavor on exhale reveals the dreaded peanut. It's much like other juices with that peanut note, except here it has an ever so slight bitter component. It's this note that makes me dislike 555. Once that element dissipates the lingering aftertaste is actually pretty analog-like. Vapor production is average for a PG blend.
I almost felt like this was a retro review. People were vaping juice that tastes like this when the choices we have today weren't an option. It isn't going to tear me away from Halo or Vapor Station juice when I want something cigarette-like, but in all honesty it's pretty good. As far as recreating that Chinese tobacco model, want2vape has nailed it. It's a worthy Sweepstakes entry, and if you like the classic tobacco vape flavor profile, or just appreciate juice that hits nicely, this is worth a try.
